Senegal: Youth Olympics for Future

In Senegal, many young people and especially girls face limited job opportunities and high unemployment. Plan International Belgium wants to change this with their project Youth Olympics for Future. In the cities Saint-Louis, Pikine en Guédiawaye, girls gain access to technical and vocational education (TVET). These trainings open doors to sectors that are typically male-dominated, such as technology, energy and sport.

But there is more: the project also uses sport, especially athletics, as a powerful tool to empower girls. Through active participation, mentorship and a safe learning environment, young people learn how to lead, persevere and believe in themselves. All of this is happening in the lead-up to the Youth Olympic Games in 2026. For the very first time, this historic event will take place in Africa.

The goal? To challenge gender stereotypes, empower girls and support them in shaping their own independent futures.
